On Sunday, a 22-year-old Keaau man told police the sedan he was driving was taken while he was in Malama Park in Hilo.
At 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, a Kona officer spotted the stolen car on Hale Kapili Street in Kailua-Kona. Two men got out of the car and fled, and the driver was arrested, according to police.
An officer identified one of the fleeing men as Jeffrey Paul DeCastro Jr., 30, of Hilo.
The driver, Cherise King, 35, of Hilo, was taken to the Kona cellblock as the investigation continued. They found 0.9 grams of meth in the car, along with paraphernalia used for illegal narcotics, police said.
DeCastro was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Alii Drive in Kona.
King was charged with unauthorized control of a motor vehicle, driving without a license, two counts of promoting a dangerous drug and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $10,500.
DeCastro was charged with unauthorized control of a motor vehicle, contempt of court and four counts of discharge of sureties. His bond was set at $24,250.
